Upgrading Lightbox to 2.5

As Osamwal suggested, I upgraded my lightbox plugin to the latest version. Too bad it didn’t work out: still, a few glitches. I tested the page in a few browsers now:

  • Ubuntu 7.10 X86_64 with Firefox 2.0.0.11
  • OS-X 10.5 with Firefox 2.0.0.11 and with Safari 3
  • Windows XP with Firefox 2.0.0.11 and Internet Explorer 7.

Didn’t like the results.

On Ubuntu, the Flash dissapeared after a mouse-over. While I first thought it had to do with some crappy coding (of mine, ofcourse), I later discovered some YouTube video’s won’t pley either. So it’s probably not my bad :) .

On OS-X in Firefox, it all worked pretty good. Didn’t notice anything weird, until Osamwal told me to upgrade. Then, I used Safari and I noticed that the Flash player wasn’t hidden.

Finally I looked at my Windows box (already after upgrading the Lightbox plugin) and saw the same issues as at my other machines.

I think the solution is simple: to use ‘em all in Wordpress, I should create one plugin that handles ‘em all at once. Maybe the Flash can be hidden when the Lightbox is shown, maybe it can be given a lower z-index. I’ll just have to look.

Personaly, I use the original LightBox2 v2.03.3 (Last release) you can download here and I rewrite a light PHP Plugin to adapt for WordPress.
So, this version has an hideFlash function and run fine on IE7, Firefox 2, Safari and also on Firefox 2 in Ubuntu 7.10. You can test with my Blog

Hi Osamwal,

thanks for your reply. Still, even on your site, it’s not working properly. Take a look at the screenshot. I didn’t notice on OS-X, but on the 64bit Ubuntu with Firefox 2.0.0.11 it’s disappearing after a couple of seconds. Still, I blame it on the Flash plugin…

No problem on 32bit Ubuntu (I tested!).
Yes, It seems to be a bug of 64bits FlashPlayer. There is a specific process to instal it properly here. Perhaps, it should run?

Hi Osamwal,

That’s exactly the install I did. My firefox might be 64bit, maybe I have to install the 32bit version of that.

Also, I now know for sure it’s the plugin that’s giving the errors. I have seen it on so many pages now…
