5 easy steps to create thumbnails using Irfanview
On Windows, one of my favorite image-editors is IrfanView. Among it’s features:
- Many supported file formats (click here the list of formats)
- Multi language support
- Thumbnail / preview option
- Paint option – to draw lines, circles, arrows, straighten image etc.
- Toolbar skins option
- Slideshow (save slideshow as EXE/SCR or burn it to CD)
- Show EXIF/IPTC/Comment text in Slideshow/Fullscreen etc.
I mostly use it to create thumbnails of all images in a folder. Here’s how.
- In IrfanView, Press [b] and navigate to the folder containing your images
- Set your options in the Advanced Tab. For instance, set it to create images with a longest side of 800 px.
- Set the naming pattern. $N is the current image name.
- Set the output folder to the desired folder. I always user the current Look-in directory and add a thumbs folder
- Add the images and hit Start Batch. Done!
